New World Center Goals
Educate members on downtown issues by hosting a lecture series at various downtown venues:
• Future of Downtown Miami vis-à-vis recent acquisition of The Miami Herald property by Genting Malaysia Berhad
• History of Miami
• Raising a family in Downtown Miami
• How culture and existing information technology assets can attract new businesses to Downtown Miami
• Connecting Downtown Miami with the health district and Marlins Stadium by land and by water
• Address residents’ and workers’ issues of a 24-hour a day/seven days a week environment
Expand the boundaries of the committees’ focus outside of the traditional downtown core by include Overtown, Health District, Design District and Midtown.
Develop a stakeholders’ meeting in cooperation with the Chamber’s Transportation Committee to address traffic enforcement, transportation, transit, parking, pedestrian and biking issues.
Vet and recommend legislative issues important to Downtown Miami.

Good Morning Miami Breakfast February 2009 the Chamber's New World Center Committee report and recommendations on the Downtown Master Plan was presented on February 11 at Akerman Senterfitt. Speakers included: Barbara Faga, Executive Vice President/Principal, EDAW/AECOM; Edgar Jones, Vice President, Rockefeller Group; Neisen Kasdin, Shareholder, Akerman Senterfitt; and Dabney Park, Jr., Ph.D., Performance Executive Search & Management Consulting.

Good Morning Miami Breakfast November 2007 program discussed the transformation of downtown Miami. Distinguished mayors shared their secrets of creating a vibrant downtown. The panel featured Bill Hudnut, senior resident fellow of the Urban Land Institute and former mayor of Indianapolis; Glenda Hood, former Florida Secretary of State and former mayor of Orlando; and Anthony Williams, CEO of Primum Public Realty Trust and former mayor of Washington D.C.
Miami River dredging has been a long term goal of the GMCC. Led by the Miami River Commission, the long-awaited maintenance dredging of the Miami River began on September 25, 2004. This $74 million project took 32 years and involved cooperation in Washington, Tallahassee, Jacksonville and local government. The dredging is expected to take two to four years to complete.
