Regionalism is a great idea whose time has come to South Florida. This is especially true now, since 2003 the U.S. government merged South Florida's three former Standard Metropolitan Statistical Areas, West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood, and Miami-Dade into one. South Florida's new government-defined Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) covers the same area and included nearly 6 million people, defining the sixth largest market in the nation. Whereas separately our three markets ranked in the teens to the 40's, together we're among the very largest and most attractive markets in the country!
One of the indicators of the rising tide of regionalism in this area is the formation of the Tri-County Leadership Council (TCLC), a coalition of leadership organization led by Leadership Palm Beach County, Leadership Broward Foundation, and Leadership Miami. It is the hope and goal of TCLC that through these organizations, many community leaders in South Florida can quickly obtain the knowledge, tools, and contacts needed for them to take an active part in building regionalism as a further competitive advantage for their own communities and organizations.
