Youth Leadership Miami (YLM) Program is a two-day intensive conference that develops leadership skills and provides community issue education. The program further develops socio-economically and culturally diverse local high school students into future leaders of Miami-Dade County's workforce and volunteer services community. YLM builds upon relationships with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS), local nonprofit organizations and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) to holistically educate high school youth and prepare them to become effective leaders, executives and community volunteers. YLM will create opportunities for the development of knowledge, skills and increased self-awareness for these youth through hands-on adventure experiences, workshops/seminars and social activities throughout the school year.
Youth Leadership Miami (YLM), founded in 2003, is free and open to all Miami-Dade County high school students in good academic standing, who have a desire to make a difference in our community. This exciting program is patterned after the highly successful and widely recognized Leadership Miami program. YLM brings together young people from diverse backgrounds and experiences to gain knowledge and explore issues affecting Greater Miami's youth and our community. Several scholarships will be awarded to selected seniors and all students receive a minimum of 16 community service hours for their participation in the entire program.
YLM will is held in the spring each year for two activity packed days from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Students must provide their own transportation. Breakfast, lunch and snacks are provided. Students will receive community service hours for attending the YLM conference.
