Workforce Housing Committee

A recent report entitled, "Miami's Housing Affordability Crisis" notes that our affordable housing challenges are among the worst in the nation. The Workforce Housing Committee looks t promote the enhancement of attainable housing stock, a crucial component of Miami's growing world-class status. The Committee advocates for important issues, but also works to find creative solutions to the problem.

Miami faces one of the nation's worst affordable housing crises, as highlighted in a recent report. The Workforce Housing Committee aims to address this issue by advocating for and enhancing affordable housing stock, which is vital for Miami's growth. The committee partners with nonprofits, businesses, universities, and government entities to find creative solutions and secure affordable housing. Its objectives include collaborating with public and private partners, educating the public on the link between housing and economic performance, advocating for government funding, and supporting up-zoning along transit corridors.

Participation in the Workforce Housing Committee is open to all Greater Miami Chamber members in good standing who have interests or concerns related to transportation issues. Members include community organizations, developers, private sector advocacy groups and concerned citizens.

Goals

2026-2027 WORKFORCE HOUSING COMMITTEE GOALS:

  • Collaborate with the Miami Housing Action Alliance to launch a countywide initiative aimed at creating an actionable roadmap to address Miami-Dade County’s affordable and workforce housing crisis. This effort includes developing a comprehensive Housing Best Practices and Policy Recommendations Report, as well as organizing the second annual Housing Solutions Summit by June 2027.
  • Increase Miami-Dade County’s workforce housing inventory by 10%, through advocacy and educating developers, local government, and housing stakeholders on the benefits of the Live Local Act and other incentive programs that support workforce housing development. Results will be measured by the number of proposed Live Local Act projects tracked through the Florida Housing Coalition Dashboard.
  • Maintain and promote the Workforce Housing Resource Guide with annual updates and targeted outreach to ensure developers, investors, and housing leaders have access to current local, state, and federal resources supporting affordable and workforce housing development.
  • Work with Government Affairs to advocate for affordable and workforce housing legislation and advance policies that provide development incentives, increase funding opportunities, tax incentives and promote transit-oriented development in Miami-Dade County.
  • Recruit 10 new companies to become members of the Chamber. Engage 15 existing Chamber members to join the Workforce Housing Committee.
