However, this multifaceted lifestyle can lead to overlooked health needs. Studies indicate that women experience chronic diseases at rates comparable to or higher than men yet may lack the time for essential screenings and preventive measures. 

This forum brings together experts to discuss the latest statistics, emerging trends, and contributing factors to women's health challenges

Eneida O. Roldan, MD, MPH, MBA, Moderator

A physician, academician, researcher, administrator, and mentor with an impressive career, including serving as the first female and Hispanic CEO of Jackson Health Systems, Dr. Roldan brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast commitment to preparing future leaders with the tools and techniques needed to navigate today’s complex healthcare environment. She was a founding faculty member of the Florida International University (FIU) Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where she played a pivotal role in developing key curricula, including the Professionalism Strand and Health Systems Science curriculum. 

Dr. Roldan’s Cuban roots, high-profile leadership roles, healthcare expertise, and international educational journey, paired with her bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, have made her a sought-after spokesperson on health policy, healthcare management, and obesity, providing vital insights across various media platforms. A lifelong learner, Dr. Roldan graduated with high honors from Ross School of Medicine and completed her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology and fellowship in pediatric pathology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of South Florida and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee Haslam School of Business, both with high honors, and has attended prestigious executive programs at Harvard, Thunderbird, and the Wharton School of Business, where she is an alumnus and serves on their Executive Education Advisory Board. 

Coinciding with her tenure at FIU, Dr. Roldan served as principal investigator in numerous clinical studies focused on innovative medical treatments for obesity and infectious diseases. She has authored scientific papers and contributed chapters to medical textbooks, receiving numerous national, state, and local accolades in medicine, business, and academics. Notably, her latest chapter, “Cuban American Women Making History,” published in November 2023, chronicles her journey as a female healthcare leader. 

Morgan A. Sendzischew Shane, MD MSCTI

Morgan A. Sendzischew Shane, MD, is Assistant Clinic Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Shane completed her residency, chief residency, fellowship and T32 fellowship at the University of Miami where she also received a master’s in clinical and translational science and investigation.  She has a clinical interest in motility and women’s health, and is the founder and director of the UHealth Comprehensive Women’s Health Alliance as well as the Interim Director of Motility at the University of Miami. She has active research in the area of pelvic floor dysfunction, as well as reflux and disorders of gut brain interaction. She also has an interest in medical education on all levels, and currently serves as the program director for the Gastroenterology Fellowship program.

Saima Aftab, MD, MBA, FACHE, FAAP

Saima Aftab, MD, serves as vice president of business development and chief strategy officer for Nicklaus Children’s Health System, the region’s only healthcare system exclusively for children and the parent organization of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, a nationally recognized nonprofit pediatric specialty hospital based in Miami, Florida. 

In her role, Dr. Aftab oversees the planning and development of programs aligned to the strategic and tactical vision of the 309-bed hospital and its network of pediatric outpatient centers situated in Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier, Martin, Monroe and Palm Beach counties. She leads business development initiatives, identifies new growth areas and assesses strategic partnerships and market opportunities to move Nicklaus Children’s forward. Additionally, Dr. Aftab provides leadership to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s Global Health Initiative. 

Dr. Aftab has over 15 years of clinical practice and medical leadership experience. Most recently, she served as vice president of Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, as well as medical director for the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Fetal Care Center. Prior to joining Nicklaus Children’s, Dr. Aftab served as director of education in the Department of Pediatric Newborn Medicine and assistant director of the STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and has held academic appointments at Harvard Medical School, Tufts University School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.  

Beatriz Perez Sanz, MD

Driven by a passion for science, patient care, and a love for new challenges.

Dr. Beatriz Perez earned her medical degree from Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2006, followed by a hematology residency at Hospital Clínico San Carlos, Madrid, completed in 2012. She expanded her expertise through diverse clinical experiences, including a medical internship in pediatric oncohematology and a medical grant in Norway. 

She began her career in the pharmaceutical industry at Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies, holding roles such as Medical Scientific Liaison and Medical Affairs Manager in Oncohematology from 2012 to 2015. In 2015, she joined Roche as a Medical Manager in Oncohematology. She later became the Disease Area Medical Leader for Hematology and Skin, and served as Country Medical Director starting in 2019, focusing on medical strategy, evidence generation, and team leadership. 

Currently, Dr. Beatriz Perez is the Head of Field Medical in the US at Genentech, where she oversees field medical operations, ensuring scientific integrity and patient care. Driven by the ethos of "doing now what patients need next," she works with various stakeholders to support patients' outcomes.
