Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to Honor Benjamin León, Jr. with 2025 Sand In My Shoes® Award | Press Release
MIAMI (June 26, 2025) – The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce proudly announces that Benjamin León, Jr. Cuban-American businessman, healthcare pioneer, philanthropist, who has recently been nominated as U.S. Ambassador to Spain, will be honored with the 2025 Sand in My Shoes® Award, one of South Florida’s most prestigious community leadership accolades.
The award will be presented during a celebratory dinner on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Jungle Island from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
As the founder of Leon Medical Centers, Mr. León has transformed healthcare access for Miami’s elderly population while consistently giving back through philanthropic initiatives focused on education, cultural preservation, and health equity. His life’s work is a testament to unwavering dedication, resilience, and a profound love for Greater Miami.
Established in 1981, the Sand in My Shoes® Award recognizes exceptional individuals who have made lasting contributions to the South Florida region, reflecting a commitment to making Miami the best possible place to live, work, and play. Mr. Leon joins an elite group of past honorees, including Trish & Dan Bell, Alberto Ibargüen, Manuel “Manny” Medina, David Lawrence, Jr., Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Penny Shaffer, and Antonio “Tony” Argiz—all of whom have shaped the community through visionary leadership and civic engagement.
